In Training…

I’m training for the OC Half Marathon.  I’m going to run 13.1 miles in May from Newport to Costa Mesa.  I paid my fee, so chickening out is out of the picture, I’m going to do it.  The whole idea of running that far scares me, so I signed up for the training class with my registration.  Thereby assuring that I will do enough training to complete the Half Marathon on my own two feet running.

I’m in awe of anyone who can run a half, full marathon or even farther.   It’s impressive, like having traveled to space or the top of Kilimanjaro to me.  Some unattainable goal; I never thought would be in my grasp.

Today I ran eight miles as part of my training class, its the farthest I have ever run!  I’m stoked to have finished it.  For the last half mile I was able to pull some energy together and step up my pace, without burning out.  I ran the whole time but, I did stop at the turn around point for a moment to suck down a Cliff Citrus One-shot and at a traffic light to cross the street both coming and going.  Well that second light I did time it so I would miss it and have to rest err wait.

I’m sitting in Starbucks enjoying a cup of Sun-Dried Ethiopia Yirgacheffe coffee made in their Clover machine.  Its a very fine cup of coffee indeed, well worth the cost for an enjoyable cup.

Alas I’m done and shall now head home for second breakfast with my lovely wife.

On a humorous side note, I can never type “marathon” correctly, I always type “marathong”, which sounds like a giant shoe or string underwear on a very large person.
